Where we contribute

In the decisions.
Alongside your team.

Work directly with a CTO-level adviser to connect business priorities with technical decisions. We can guide your existing team and suppliers, or help coordinate engineering delivery with Revni. Advisory does not require a development engagement.

Find the right involvement ↘

Strategy & investment

Translate business objectives into a sequence of technology decisions. Compare extending an existing platform, buying a product and building software against the constraints that matter to you.

Architecture & cloud

Review system boundaries, integration dependencies, access, resilience and operating costs. Document the trade-offs and what needs validating before committing to a direction.

Teams & suppliers

Clarify responsibilities across internal teams and vendors. Review proposals against the same objectives, expose dependencies and agree how technical disagreements are resolved.

Delivery & communication

Review working evidence against the agreed scope, surface risks and explain technical choices to business stakeholders. Track changes to assumptions rather than report activity alone.

When the next decision
needs experienced judgement.

Bring the uncertainty, the constraints and the people involved. We establish the responsibility you need before defining the engagement.

A direction to establish

You need to assess the current estate, choose priorities and explain the investment before committing to a programme.

Delivery without technical ownership

Several teams or vendors are making decisions, but dependencies, architecture and accountability are not being managed together.

A consequential decision ahead

A cloud migration, platform replacement or product launch needs experienced review of options, risks and execution.

The right involvement.
A clearly defined remit.

A focused review and an ongoing leadership role serve different needs. Agree the outputs, access and availability around the work.

Establish a direction

Technology assessment

Review the estate, delivery risks and business priorities. Receive a findings brief, options and a prioritised roadmap with dependencies.

Critical initiative advisory

Focus senior oversight on a defined launch, migration or platform decision, with decision checkpoints and an agreed handover.

Advisory can work alongside your existing team. Engineering delivery is optional and scoped separately.

A conversation should leave
something you can use.

The engagement can maintain a prioritised roadmap, architecture decisions, a risk and dependency register, and delivery reviews. Each recommendation records its rationale and the next owner, so decisions remain usable between conversations.

A working relationship.
Clear responsibilities.

At the outset, define the sponsor, decision rights, time commitment, escalation route and expected outputs. Your business retains investment and commercial approval. Operational and incident responsibilities are agreed separately; fractional leadership does not imply round-the-clock coverage.

Your sponsor

Owns business priorities and investment approval.

Technology leadership

Develops recommendations and guides agreed technical decisions.

Delivery owners

Implement and demonstrate the work within the agreed scope.

Establish the remit

Review the available information and agree the sponsor, decisions, outputs, access and time commitment.

Set the first priorities

Identify consequential unknowns and immediate delivery risks. Decide what to examine first and what can wait.

Review working evidence

Use decision sessions, architecture reviews and delivery checkpoints. Keep actions and escalation routes available between meetings.

Continue or hand over

Assess the agreed outputs, adjust the remit or transfer the roadmap and decision history to your internal leadership.

Practical questions about the relationship, the remit and the people doing the work.

Discuss your leadership needs
Is this the same as CTO as a Service?

The terms are sometimes used for similar engagements. We use Fractional CTO & Technology Advisory to distinguish recurring leadership from a focused review or assessment. The agreed responsibilities, availability and outputs define what you receive.

Is this an ongoing leadership role or a one-off review?

Either. Fractional CTO leadership provides an agreed, recurring involvement in technology decisions and delivery. Technology advisory can address a defined assessment, architecture choice or initiative. We establish the remit and expected outputs before agreeing an engagement.

Can you work with our existing development team?

Yes. Internal engineers and existing suppliers can continue delivering. We clarify who recommends, approves and implements decisions, and introduce a review cadence that fits your organisation. Revni development work is optional and scoped separately.

What happens between meetings?

The agreed remit may include reviewing technical proposals, preparing options, following up on dependencies and recording decisions. Availability, turnaround expectations and escalation routes are established in the engagement scope; they should not be assumed from the meeting frequency.

Do you take responsibility for our cloud operations?

Leadership can include cloud architecture, operating cost and resilience reviews. Hands-on administration, incident response and on-call coverage require a separately agreed operational scope. Your business retains commercial and investment approval.

What should we bring to the first conversation?

The business decision or delivery concern, the people involved and any existing roadmap or system overview. A complete specification is not required. We first establish whether you need sustained leadership, a focused assessment or implementation help.

Connected thinking.

Follow the decisions further.

A useful first conversation.

You don’t need a finished brief. Bring the problem, the systems involved and what a better outcome would look like.
